19 march 2010 - Porto (PT) - Tram museum Massarelos. This is a coal tram (no, I don't mean that it runs with steam!). It was built to carry coal from a coal mine to the Carris power station. The UK had a few of these - particularly Leeds - but now they are only found in museums.

19 march 2010 - Porto (PT) - Massarelos. The nice Porto Tram Museum also has some buses, mostly kept in a reserve store. Until the 1970s, most buses in Portugal came from the UK, including ths 1959 B.U.T. trolleybus, one of many double and single deck vehicles that ran here.

19 march 2010 - Porto (PT) – Massarelos. An inside view of the unusual ‘semi-convertible’ design developed by Brill of Philadelphia, which became something of a Portuguese speciality. Each whole window frame slides up into the curved roof, leaving an open car for summer. The cane rattan-covered, reversible seats are also typical of American trams of the period.

19 march 2010 - Porto (PT) – Foz. A Porto bogie car. STCP once had many bogie trams, but most have now gone and just a few remain for special museum services. Car 275 was built locally but is typical of the Brill ‘semi-convertible’ design. As Porto is a standard-gauge tramway, their cars could be much bigger than the little 900mm and metre-gauge trams in other Portuguese cities. Bogie trams can only use the riverside line, so don’t now get much use.

19 march 2010 - Porto (PT) – Carmo. A Porto museum tram on the recently rebuilt line leading to the upper city. The extent of these new tracks can be seen in the photo. Three public routes are operated, but only run about every 30 minutes between 0900 and 1700, so these aren’t really a serious means of transport but are really just for visitors, who can also ride on a special tourist tram that runs once an hour. Car 191 comes from the excellent museum at Massarelos depot and is an original 1912 American-built Brill. Because of the steep gradients, only two-axle cars are allowed up here.

19 march 2010 - Porto (PT) – Batalha. Like tramways in other Portuguese cities, Porto almost closed down completely and just one short line along the banks of the Douro river survived - many of the old trams on American and British trucks were sold to museums. Everyone thought the trams were finished, but there was a sudden change of policy a few years ago and the riverside line was rebuilt and extended. Now, new lines have brought the trams back to the city centre and further extensions are planned (although it seems the money has run out for the time being). Tram 205 is a 1930s rebuild of an earlier car but retains its clerestory roof.

Objechaliśmy sieć tramwajów żywcem wyjętych z lat 20tych XX wieku z góry na dół, po czym po wjechaniu windą [tu można ją obejrzeć, harmonijki się składają na odcinku poziomym] na górę (widać fragment wyjścia) trafiliśmy znów na te tramwaje ku memu niepomiernemu zdziwieniu :) To, co znałem jedynie z opowiadań o pterodaktylach i triceratopsach, tu można zobaczyć na żywo! Po dojechaniu na kraniec należy: 1) przełożyć pałąk, razem ze ściągaczem linki [tak wygląda ta operacja] 2) przełożyć oparcia foteli [tu Adam G. prezentuje jak się to robi] 3) przełożyć tablice kierunkowe :) Po prostu totalny odjazd! A najpiękniejsze jest to, że można, w przeciwieństwie do Najjaśniejszej Pomrocznej, hodować takie rzeczy i jeszcze mieć z tego zysk :)![[tu można ją obejrzeć, harmonijki się składają na odcinku poziomym]](http://img63.imageshack.us/img63/8112/portoelevador.jpg){kind=link}

5 february 2010 - Porto, Infante. Urokliwa jedynka wyrusza stąd w ponad 20-minutową podróż wzdłuż rzeki Douro. Dociera niemal na brzeg Oceanu Atlantyckiego. Kiedyś trasa była dłuższa i wiodła również jego brzegiem. Amatorzy wieczornych przejażdżek niestety się zawiodą - linia kończy kursowanie ok. godziny 18.

5 february 2010 - Porto, Praça de Carlos Alberto. Tuż obok, na pętli Carmo, trasę kończą dwie z trzech tutejszych linii tramwajowych. Porto stawia na ekologię - sieć metra jest rozbudowana, nikt nie myśli raczej o likwidacji tramwajów. Ten Mercedes nie spełnia standardów - obecnie kupuje się tu wyłącznie autobusy na CNG lub wodór, eksperymentowano również z napędem hybrydowym.

Do obsługi najdłuższej linii B (przejazd pełnej trasy trwa ponad godzinę) w zeszłym roku skierowano najnowsze wagony Bombardiera. Jeden ma ponad 37 metrów długości, mieści niemal 250 pasażerów i osiąga zawrotną prędkość 100km/h. Dzięki zakupowi 30 jednostek tego typu, tabor przedsiębiorstwa Metro do Porto stanowią aż 102 wagony.

5 february 2010 - Porto, Avenida da Republica. Skład Eurotramów dojeżdża do końcowej stacji linii D (D. Joao II). Ostatnie kilkadziesiąt metrów trasy prowadzi po jednotorze, na końcowej stacji może stać tylko jeden pociąg. Przy częstotliwości dochodzącej do 5-6 minut postoje są tam bardzo krótkie.

5 february 2010 - Porto, Alameda de Basilio Teles. W tym miejscu do jadącej wzdłuż wybrzeża linii 1 dołącza na chwilę zjeżdżająca ze starówki linia 18. Jedynka ma najdłuższą trasę, stąd dla zapewnienia 30-minutowej częstotliwości niezbędne są dwa wagony. Linia kapitalna :-)

5 february 2010 - Porto, stacja Lapa. Wagon Eurotram w innych miastach traktowany jest jako tramwaj, w Porto kursuje na linii "metra". Trasa metra w dużej części przebiega na powierzchni, tu akurat mamy centralny odcinek, po którym kursują aż cztery linie: A, B, C i E. Dominują składy złożone z dwóch Eurotramów lub nowych Flexity Swift.

Funicular dos Guindas
11 november 2008 - Porto, funicular dos Guindas. Co prawda wchodzenie po schodach bywa męczące, ale tym wynalazkiem trzeba koniecznie przejechać się W DÓŁ - wrażenia niesamowite. Górna stacja jest w tunelu, a sama trasa jest załamana w połowie (początkowo niemal po płaskim, a potem ostro w dół) - wagoniki mają urządzenia poziomujące w postaci widocznych harmonijek. Proszę o dodanie typu.

Between the cars there is an entry to the Guindas elevator - I'm shocked that this elevator isn't still present at TWB. PS. I can't see whether on "T"-line the car's number is #203 or rather #208, the 22 line is served by #131.
